Shikharesh Das

Asia Leader

Shikharesh Das currently leads Ontogenix and is specialized in market entry strategy for med tech companies. He brings in-depth experience in medical device industry with strong global emerging markets track record. Earlier, Shikharesh worked with GE Healthcare as Director Strategic Marketing in a global role and was responsible for introducing best practices in pricing, training delivery, customer-oriented product development process and portfolio rationalization. He was responsible for successful distributor alignment and new brand strategy implementation for Philips Medical and has worked in various regional sales and marketing leadership roles with Philips and HP.
He holds a Bachelor degree in Science, an MBA from National University of Singapore and is a certified Management Consultant. He is also a sought after speaker in various MBA circuits & other forums.

Paul Stegman

Australia & NZ

Paul is a successful sales and marketing professional with a distinguished career with over 30 years in the healthcare equipment market. More recently he was the Senior Leader for Philips Asia Pacific Patient Care and Monitoring Solutions. In this role he was responsible for delivering y-on-y sales growth through innovative direct and indirect sales activities and creative marketing programs. Paul revolutionized the medical products distribution channel in HP ANZ with MR network, doubling the business within 12 months. With a track record in both emerging and developed markets in Asia, his diverse real world experience has come about by working hands on in a Middle East Hospital, followed by senior APAC roles in Singapore and Australia.

Paul holds a Bachelor in Business, majoring in marketing as well as a Certificate in Electrical Engineering.

Hitoshi Kumano

Japan

Our Japan initiative is currently led by Kumano-san, with multiple decades of experience in medical industry. Kumano-san has held various roles including the head of strategic planning and execution, marketing and project management, as well as sales and distributor management, at the Japanese operations of the healthcare companies such as Gould (later, a part of BD and GE), B. Braun, and Biosensors.
Earlier, he spent three years as a trainer at the cath-lab and operating room at Tokyo Women's Medical University, one of the most prestigious institutions in the cardiology field, which gave him a great opportunity to build his front line experience.

Kumano-san is a core member of Biomedical Japan Inc - a major boutique strategy consulting firms in the medical device industry – and exclusive partner of Ontogenix.

Sanjay Bapna

Indian Subcontinent

Sanjay Bapna is a Sales and Marketing professional with over 30 years’ experience in the Healthcare Devices space. He specialises in overall Business Strategy and healthcare delivery. During his years as Philips’ Head of Sales for Indian Sub-continent, he grew business more than two fold. He was instrumental in driving the Primary Care Strategy by creating a separate vertical to target the unaddressed 55000 small hospitals in India. As Sr Director for Philips ASEAN he introduced the concept of Customer and Channel Financing.
Sanjay has also had successful stints at L & T Ltd, HCL Corp., Hewlett Packard and Agilent Technologies. He was invited as one of the four panellists in a high profile debate on Primary Healthcare, organised by The Economist at Singapore.
He is an Electrical Engineering graduate from National Institute of Technology, India and lives in Mumbai.

Dr Kate Lazarenko

Kate has over ten years of experience of working in Health IT viz digital, telehealth, health informatics and systems interoperability, helping organisations find efficient and cost-effective ways to transform their business and technology to deliver truly customer centric experience. Her focus is on increasing customer satisfaction, fostering innovation and getting digital and IT transformations right.

In her previous life, Kate has worked on Consulting projects with PwC & Health Industry Matters Singapore. She also has broad expertise Research with Monash University, Australia, Australian Digital Health Agency, British Telecom, Singapore. Kate strives to enable health industry companies to shift their emphasis from technology and services to patients and brings patient engagement expertise to the table.

Colin Chong

Product Development

Colin Chong leads the product development strategy of Ontogenix and provides development and manufacturing expertise to SME’s & start-ups. He helps them leverage technologies into transformative and viable devices in the medical and life science industries.
Colin has 30 years product development experience and held various positions in his 17-year tenure at Medtronic USA. He led research, development and manufacturing efforts for implantable and external insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring hardware, and single-use products. This included product teams in Europe, manufacturing operations in Asia, and various functional and clinical evaluation teams in the USA.

Colin received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He holds 36 US patents with 11 more pending and is a recipient of the President’s Award for Outstanding Innovation from Medtronic Diabetes.

Tapa Bhattacharyya

Service strategy

Tapa Bhattacharyya is a senior consultant with Ontogenix and leads their service strategy business. Previously, he has held senior positions in GE healthcare as Global Product Manager and Global Lifecycle service manager for their monitoring & diagnostic cardiology division, Asia Service leader for GE’s Cardiology division and Service marketing and sales manager for customer support with Philips Medical system, among others. He achieved great success in his service careers with issue, service feedback, on time readiness of NPI milestones for several projects, DFS engagement, service pricing and also developing service matrices. Tapa was recipient of Hewlett-Packard’s prestigiousLew Platt Global Service award, for extra-ordinary Commitment to customer satisfaction – highest Global Award in Hewlett-Packard for customer service.

Tapa holds a bachelor’s Degree in engineering and PG Diploma in Sales and Marketing management from IIM.

Jan Ekström

M&A

Jan Ekström is the Managing Director and founder of Aidertech. He has a 30+ years’ experience in various management and leadership positions and has been building a successful business growth models from a small enterprise into a global market leader.

He held various positions in Datex before being promoted to General
Manager, OEM Business Unit. He was responsible for the management of integration process of Ohmeda into Datex, where he later held the position of VP & GM, Technology Exchange. He was also in charge of Datex-Ohmeda’s patent strategy.

He founded Aidertech Inc.in November 2005 - the company provides M&A and IP strategy services for Finnish and international technology companies.
Mr. Ekström holds a MSc in Technical Physics and has experience as a board chairman and member of several technology companies.

He brings his 20 years of deep expertise in building & leading business and sales channels, as well as acquisitions, integrations and organizational transformations.
His has broad domain experience in advanced wound care, biologics, nutraceuticals and OTC products across the Asia Pacific region, Middle East, Africa, Turkey and Israel. He has lived and worked in Australia, Middle East, China and Singapore and is a transcultural leader.
Earlier, Troy served as VP Asia and Emerging Markets at Acelity and has held leadership positions in private equity owned and also in companies such as GE, Datex–Ohmeda and J&J. Troy acts as a board advisor and mentor for a variety of companies.

Dave Sheppard

America's

David Sheppard has held leadership positions in the Medical Device industry for more than 30 years, including engagements in global VP positions in companies like Covidien, Tyco, Invicta, Excelitas etc.

His experience at major Fortune 500 and also at start-up organizations contribute to his expertise in delivering organic growth for companies of all sizes. Dave has vast knowledge about meeting challenges in both mature and emerging economies. His key accomplishments include doubling Covidien’s OEM revenue in 5 years, 2.5X growth in Surgical business in Tyco in 2 years, executing tactical programs in USA, Europe and Latin America, global launch of Excelitas UV LED in new segments.

David is resident of United States and is a popular thought leader & speaker on global distribution issues.

Patrick Schall

Europe & Africa

Pragmatic strategist Patrick has more than 25 years of experience in leadership roles at global companies and start-ups in healthcare domain.

He brings in expertise as an accomplished leader with proven experience at organizations such as BD, BOC Healthcare, Viggo-Spectramed, MedChem, ARROW Inc and Piramal Critical Care Ltd. in several geographies and more specifically Europe and Africa. As GM of the ARROW subsidiary in France he reorganized, and re-positioned to successfully access new markets segments. Earlier, he also worked in Europe and South-east Asia for BOC and MedChem in Director roles.

His expertise is notably for creating and developing regional / international organizations; market entry; setting up distribution; building up market visibility / brand equity and product registrations.

Fredrik Nyberg

Adviser - Strategy

Fredrik is an advisor to Ontogenix and brings over 25 years’ experience in the medical device and equipment industry in senior sales & marketing, general management and consulting positions.

Earlier, Fredrik advised a broad range of clients on their Asian strategies including Becton Dickinson, J&J MD&D, STERIS, Getinge, Dornier MedTech, Small Bone Innovations, Ikaria (INO Therapeutics) and a variety of emerging growth companies in developing and executing Asian market entry strategies. He has also led due diligence of medtech M&A targets in China and elsewhere in Asia for PE and VC clients.

Fredrik holds a BSc (Hons) in Business Administration and Economics from Gothenburg University, Sweden and an MBA from Henley Management College, UK. He is a frequent speaker on the healthcare industry in Asia-Pacific.
